In May 2011, MadeByPi blew out 15 candles. And to celebrate, we had a bit of a knees-up at the rather splendid Rudding Park in Harrogate. The party not only marked our 15th birthday but also the birthdays of our sister companies, Principles Agency (25), Principles Research (21) and Fusion Unlimited (10). What with four birthdays, a whopping big cake and plenty of fizz to quaff, it was quite a party.
And now we’ve reached the grand old age of 15, we can look back and smile about The Old Days. It seems like only yesterday that we were wrestling with Windows 95, noisy 56k modems and file downloads of 2k. These days we get more bandwidth on our phones standing in the middle of nowhere than we ever got in the days of IE5.
We’ve watched the internet grow into a cultural phenomenon where we can chat, interact, share things, store stuff, watch TV, make video calls and play games with people in the opposite hemisphere. We can choose to read a whole book online or simply scan the Wikipedia synopsis. We can talk for hours for free on Skype or get the day’s gossip in a quick 140 characters. It’s a world of instant news and information, social media, ‘Likes’, apps, tweets, feeds, updates, widgets, RSS, MMORPG and much, much more.
And it’s really exciting to be a part of it.
